Midori stood with Ururu in a bookshop. It glittered as the sun hit bright dangling ornaments that hung in the front window, making small rainbows appeared on the floor and the patrons themselves. It had not occurred to them that Jinta was missing until Ururu looked along the shelves of the store.
“Mii, we’ve lost Jinta again.” She said in her small voice. Midori looked up from a book and viewed the people in the store.
“So he has,” she snapped the book shut. “well Kisuke wouldn’t want just two of us to come back home now would he. Lets go and see where he’s run off to.”
Renji stared at Jinta with annoyance. He knew where Midori was and yet he didn’t want to tell him.
“You’re not as bright as Mii says you are.” He smirked. Renji turned away.
“Yeah, what makes you say that you little bastard?”
“You lost her so easily. Aren’t you a Lieutenant? A rank below Mii?” Jinta asked. Renji glared down at him and nodded. Jinta grinned more malevolently.
“Mii’s condensed her powers to a mere human’s. So why is it so hard for you to grasp that? Tell me Tattoo’s why are you looking for her?” Renji looked  back at him. If what this kid was saying was true then Midori was cloaking her powers to make it harder to find her. It explained why it took so long for the others to find her last.
“Midori is precious to me. She’s my family and I don’t want her to end up like Rukia.”
“Boy then you must not know about the ‘him’.”
“ ‘him’?” Renji looked confused. “Kisuke you mean?”
“Oh so you don’t know.”
“JINTA!” A voice yelled from behind Renji. Midori stopped when she saw to whom he was speaking to. So he had come after her.
“Jinta come here. Now!” She said in a cold tone. Jinta hurried over to her side.
“Good bye, Abarai.” She took Ururu and Jinta by the hand and disappeared, leaving Renji standing there.
“Flash step. Impressive that she can do that in the land of the living.”  he thought to himself.
They returned to the shop where Midori informed Tensai and Kisuke what had happened. Kisuke merely grined.
“Why does it surprise you that he’s here?” Midori looked away from him. Kisuke had been her family along with Tensai, Jinta and Ururu. They took her in when she found out what was going on in the Soul Society, gave her a place to come home to after school, a safe place. It had never occurred that her world here would clash with the one in the Soul Society. With Renji here it meant that he was unaware of what was happening. He was nothing but  stray dog looking for someone to protect him.
“Renji is a fool.” She said simply and walked out to the front yard. She looked up to the sky. Clear and cloudless, was it so wrong that she wanted to escape her former life? Did it make her a coward, fleeing when she should be fighting? It was all to much for her. Tears formed in her eyes.
“Don’t cry Mii. When you cry, I feel it. So please don’t cry.”
“Sado. Why did you have to go there? Please come back here. You don‘t know what your up against there, or what their capable of. Please just come back here where I need you. ” She wept softly to herself, falling to her knees.
“I finally found you, Midori.” Midori looked up to se a blurry Renji Abarai standing ten feet away. He looked so somber, so dismayed as he looked at her. Midori stood up and faced him.
“Do what you will. Just know this brother: I’m staying here, where I’m needed and where he’ll be able to find me when he returns.”
